Swine Flu or Not - It’s really up to YOU!!!!

Don’t kid yourself, if you have Swine Flu, you can have the best doctors in the world taking care of you, but the name of the game is Flu Prevention, and the question is how do you resist getting the Swine Flu or any other flu for that matter? You need to get the germ into your body in order to contract the Swine Flu, and that means it has to get into an opening.

Even if you get the germ on your skin, it doesn’t guarantee you will contract Swine Flu because it must enter via the mouth, nose, or eyes. Those are the pathways into the body. If you have or are having a surgical procedure

done, such as a hospital patient, than the surgical site itself is also a pathway for germs to enter the body.

I am going to give you a few basic ideas about how to prevent the Swine Flu, and for that matter, colds and viruses in general.

- Wash those hands, and keep washing them. Every time, you shake hands with someone, you are shaking hands with everyone else they have shaken hands with, since they last washed their hands. If you do shake hands, then before you touch any other part of your body including your nose, mouth, and eyes, you must get those hands clean.

- A person who is infected can pass the germ to you a day before symptoms appear, and up to 7 days after symptoms appear. You get the virus by contact with such a person directly, or by contact with an object that they touched. It is debatable how long an object such as a doorknob can retain the live germ.

- Beware of door handles. About the most germ infested surface you can touch is a door handle or the faucets you turn the water on and off with, especially in bathrooms that others use. Once you touch either of these objects, it is as though you never washed your hands at all. Our suggestion is to use the same paper towel you dry your hands with as a barrier between your now germ free hand and the door knob or water faucet.

- At work, we keep bottles of Windex handy. Just spray the bathroom doors, and the faucets and the door handles to people’s offices and let the air dry them which only takes a minute or two. If you immediately dry the surface, you destroy most of the germ inhibiting barrier.

- Go to a major discounter like Wal-Mart and stock up on hand sanitizers. Easily carried 2 to 4 oz bottles that can fit in your pocket, are less than a $1 and give one to each member of the family. They are fabulous for cleaning hands, and the residue evaporates within seconds. Doctors use them all the time. It’s cheap insurance.

- If and when the Swine Flu hits your area, than order some masks that are N95 rated. They are recommended by the Center for Disease Control, and are very inexpensive. Go online and Google “Swine Flu Masks”, and check prices.

Follow these simple rules religiously, and we think the Swine Flu will be bypassing you and your house this season. Good luck.

Swine Flu Outbreak Finally Gets Businesses to Start Preparing

The Swine Flu pandemic outbreak is here to stay.

It’s time to finally stand up and take notice. If you have not already started your preparations and planning, then (apart from shame on you) it’s time you did something about it.

The question is of course, “What do you need to you do”?

Swine flu is an influenza type no different to bird flu or human flu, except that it occurs in pigs instead of humans or birds. Scientists have always said that the global pandemics we have experienced throughout history (at the rate of about three a century) are the result of the animal virus jumping from one species to another and combining to form a lethal form of influenza which is also infectious.

As the human body is more similar to a pig’s body than a bird, the path of least resistance for the virus is between pigs and humans. When a bird influenza strain makes the jump to pigs, it is possible for it to combine with the pig form of the virus which can easily jump to humans, and then subsequently between humans.

This is what appears to have happened. The DNA of the Swine Flu outbreak virus contains bird flu and human flu.

Regardless of which mammal this pandemic strain has come from we all must now start getting our businesses prepared.

Fortunately there is a lot of information available on the internet on Bird Flu which can also be used for Swine Flu, to help get planning underway. This includes a lot of housekeeping (both for businesses and homes) as well as stockpiling things like face masks and hand antiseptics. With the latter you’ll have to be quick though as we have already seen skyrocketing sales of all of these items. As for the former there’s also plenty to get on with.

The problem with the information available there’s a lot of rough to go through to find the diamonds. The diamonds being the tidbits of useful practical information, ideas you can use to actually do something, rather than theory and education.

For example, what should you do when sickness is discovered in the workplace and your staff evacuate their workstations and offices in fear of being the next victim. This will happen, even if the ’sick’ person doesn’t actually have the disease. How do you get the clean up done and get everyone back to their stations quickly and efficiently?

If you want your staff to come to work when the pandemic has really taken hold on us you’re going to have to convince them that the office is the safest place to be outside of the home. They have to know you have plans in place and that you know what you’re doing when it comes to protecting their safety.

This means you need to have a sterilized office environment where illness is checked at the door. You would need compulsory temperature checks for staff and visitors at every entrance, sterilization mats, face masks to hand out and hand sanitization outlets. Delivery staff can drop off outside, and packages disinfected before being brought in.

Keep meetings to an absolute minimum, but if they are unavoidable maintain a distance of at least one meter between attendees, and more if you can.

You can save yourself a lot of effort, and more importantly time, by going straight to where the ‘diamonds in the rough’ are. Whether the pandemic came from birds or swines you’ll find all the answers you need to get your pandemic preparedness completed and your pandemic stockpiling bought and delivered at Bird Flu Manual Online.

Special Alert: Swine Flu, Pregnancy & Fertility

On Monday, as I watched the media breed fear into the public, I also saw my charts going nuts. The “Swine Flu fear” was spreading from people, to the financial markets.

Fist I heard about hog and pork belly futures taking a blood bath in the trading pits due to the swine flu. (Commodity traders were scared that while this is all going on that the public would eat less pork than they otherwise would.)

Then later on, the stock market cranked up and I saw Smithfield Foods (SFD) gap down and lose over 12% in a single day. Tyson Foods (TSN) gapped down too and traded down almost 9% on the day too.

It was then that I switched over to my currency screens and brought up the Mexican peso (USD/MXN). The peso was getting slaughtered over the swine flu.

It not only broke the downtrend line as the peso dove, but it gapped noticeably higher on the daily chart and soared over 5.25% on the day.

But why? What’s the big deal about this flu and why should it affect a currency?

Here’s how the peso gets punished for the “Swine Flu”!

Mexico has had 159 Swine flu related deaths and there are 2,500 that have been diagnosed, 1,300 of which are in the hospital.

Economists estimate that it has slowed Mexico’s economy by 60% recently (or an estimated $87 million A DAY)! All 35,000 restaurants in Mexico City have been ordered shut and the schools are already closed down.

The fear that is spreading from Mexico, now to other parts of the world is growing at a rapid pace. After all, this is not just a Mexico epidemic. The Swine flu has already spread to the U.S., Canada, Germany, Israel, Spain, the U.K., New Zealand and Australia.

Therefore, the media has taken this opportunity to feed this fear in hopes that it turns into a frenzy. After all, that makes for great ratings.

Swine flu is common. It’s common in pigs and this same type of flu is even common in birds too. We even had a bout of swine flu back in the 1970s here in the U.S. and there was a vaccine given out in 1976 that some people may still have in their body today.

However, the problem right now is that there is no vaccine currently and it takes at least 3-6 months to make a vaccine

If this fails to be contained, it will continue to hurt Mexico’s hotels, restaurants, bars, churches, tourism in general and anything having to do with the pork industry, etc. After all, who’s going to go to Mexico while they know all of this is going on?

Matter of fact, even once the “coast is clear” again one day, I’d bet that tourists will still avoid the place for a while longer just to be on the safe side.

After all, do you remember the SARS virus in Asia. Even though they got it contained in a relatively short amount of time, it virtually shut down Hong Kong for about 6 months.

Therefore, this is not just a health issue (which is most important) but it’s also a financial issue. And a financial issue is also a sentiment issue. After all, would you buy the peso knowing that all of this is brewing in their country? Of course not, and neither will millions of other traders around the world…hence the rise of the USD/MXN pair.

Therefore the deterioration economically that it has on any country can weigh down its currency as well. After all, currencies are basically valued based off of sentiment and that sentiment is based off of how well investors think the economy is doing.

The peso gets punished while the buck and the yen catch a break!

So money is flowing out of the peso at a rapid rate and is fleeing to the U.S. dollar and the yen as the market becomes “risk adverse” yet again over this epidemic that investors feel could become a pandemic.

Therefore expect more money to flow out of the peso until this problem gets reigned in and expect money to flow towards the greenback which will continue to crush the USD/MXN pair.

Should this flu virus start spreading to other countries rapidly, then you can expect the yen to be a huge beneficiary since the yen seems to thrive off of fear these days. The dollar will benefit as a close runner up for the very same reasons.

Therefore, keep an eye on how bad this “swine flu” gets in the media and in “real life” as this story continues to unfold. Because a whole lot more currencies could be “dragged into this mess” if it’s not contained rather quickly.

Until there is a vaccine and containment, this will be something that is a factor that could affect any currency. Since viruses “know no boundaries”, you will want to keep an eye out for where this thing is spreading so that you know what currencies will be the most effected.

I’ve learned a long time ago to position myself to profit from forces that are outside of my control. So my trading will continue to stay on the side that profits from the Swine flu but in my heart, I pray that this is contained soon so that I can profit from dynamics that don’t affect the world’s most valuable assets: humans!

Five Business Opportunities Created by the “Swine” Flu Pandemic

One basic fact about our societies is that whatever the situation, there are always new business opportunities. And the current Swine flu pandemic does not dampen business opportunities in certain fields, although it does affect some industries.

What are the current business Opportunities created by the Swine Flu pandemic?

1. Home Delivery Services

When people opt to “stay at home,” then they will still need food, medicines and even other services delivered to the door. If this pandemic worsens, and the fear factor drives people to stay at home; Stores that offer home delivery services could be the winners.

2. Vegetarian Food Producers

Meat could be of the Menu for many families, so producers of pre-packed Vegetarian foods could see a large increase in customers for their produce. This also could help local food producers, as imports of food may be affected by the pandemic.

3. Pharmacies

Pharmacies should sell anti-flu tablets and even a vaccine for Swine flu, this windfall may help struggling pharmacies beat the current recession, and provide much needed temporary jobs.

4. On-Line Businesses

“Staying at home” could mean going online for many people, and this boosts on-line businesses, especially offering home entertainment.

5. Telecommunication Companies

In a time of fear, it is only natural to keep in contact with people you love, hear their voice and share that fear. In a globalized World, telecommunication companies should see an increase in business.

The current Pandemic may not affect all business, and it could create new businesses until the fear of swine flu lessens, and like the Bird flu scare of the early 21st Century, only temporary affect our lives.

Swine Flu - Should You Be Worried?

By now you’ve all heard of the swine flu outbreak that has started to spread around the world. To date there have only been a handful of cases in the United States and all have resolved without the use of any medication; however, there have been a few hundred cases in Mexico that unfortunately have been deadly. As seen in previous deadly outbreaks and what makes this swine flu even more ominous is that those killed ranged in ages from 20-50, a typically healthy age group. Also, the World Health Organization (WHO) recently raised its worldwide “alert level,” which it has not done since the Hong Kong pandemic in 1968, where nearly one million people died. Is this recent swine flu something that you need to be worried about? How can you protect yourself and your family?

Swine Flu vs. Seasonal Flu

Normally swine flu, as the name implies, only affects pigs. This virus, however, it seems has recently changed from its original form and therefore has “jumped” from pigs to humans. What makes this virus, named H1N1, particularly different and potentially dangerous is that it can spread from human to human.

Seasonal flu occurs every year, usually during the “cold and flu season” that usually lasts from December to March. The 2008-2009 flu season was a mild one, but like each year, it is estimated that between 250,000 to 500,000 people died from seasonal flu. What is different and worries health officials about H1N1 is that it seems to spread from human to human more quickly and easily than typical seasonal flu and because this swine flu mutated so quickly, there is no vaccine for it.

What to Watch Out for

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Some people have reported diarrhea and vomiting associated with swine flu. Also, if you or someone you know have these symptoms and have traveled to San Diego County or Imperial County, California or San Antonio, Texas within 7 days prior to the illness onset, there is reason for concern. If you have any of these symptoms, it’s a good idea to get checked by your doctor, where a nasal respiratory swab will help confirm or deny a diagnosis.

Prevention Possible

Current public health officials have recommended healthy hygiene practices to avoid the spread of swine flu. Washing of hands, getting plenty of sleep, drinking plenty of fluids and eating healthy foods are great places to start. Obviously, avoiding close contact with anyone who is sick is a no-brainer. Some research suggests that zinc and selenium might improve your body’s natural antibody response to the flu while the use of a Neti pot (nasal irrigation) prevents the virus from “setting up shop” in the nasal passages and sinuses.
Treatment After Infection?

Luckily there are plenty of things we can do to help those who unfortunately become ill. Conventionally, we know that H1N1 can be controlled with Tamiflu and/or Relenza. In addition, high doses of vitamin C, typically given intravenously, along with hydrogen peroxide can help get the virus under control.

It is yet to be determined if this current outbreak of swine flu will be as dangerous as some health officials are predicting. In the mean time, taking the appropriate measures to protect yourself and your family with a healthy dose of prevention is a great place to start.

How Swine Flu Affects Our Economies

Nothing scares people more than the spread of a virus, especially new and deadly viruses like Bird Flu or Swine Flu. This fear factor can adversely hurt economies, already reeling from the economic crash of 2008. And perhaps add to the economic woes, already being felt across the globe.

So how does Swine Flu affect our Economies?

Once “Swine” Flu officially becomes a pandemic, expect the movement of people to become minimal zed, as fear drives people to avoid crowds, and stay at home preferring to avoid the risk of catching swine flu.

This naturally affects Tourism, Entertainment and the Travel Industry, already suffering from problems created by the current economic crisis. Countries mainly affected, should be primary Mexico, at the epicenter of the current spread of swine flu, but also other developing Countries involved in Tourism.

A “trust” factor often affects people’s belief that developed Countries are more able to deal with viruses like Swine Flu, than developing or emerging Countries. This may be true, but often people forget that Europe and the United States are more mobile Countries, simply because there are no internal border controls.

Meat producers should see a fall in demand for their products, especially producers of pork products. Already “Mad” Cow disease and Bird flu affected the way many people questioned the food they ate. There should be a higher demand for vegetables, fruit and fish; good news for anyone in these industries.

Pharmaceutical and wellness Companies are always the winners in times of panic, over any new viruses. In reality this is fear driven as Bird flu, compared to the size of populations was less fatal than deaths caused by Donkeys, but it still does not deter people from playing safe by buying anti-flu products.

If the current pandemic becomes an epidemic, then like the Spanish flu virus of 1918, borders may have to close, our movements minimal zed and a scare, could become fatal to many Countries including Mexico, and those adversely affected by the epidemic.

5 Must Read Facts About the Swine Flu

Introduction

Swine Flu is close to home. It is transmitted to the mouth, eyes, and nose. It is worse in Mexico, but why? Nobody knows.  Swine flu may be a warning of the dangers of factory farming. For sure, it is the most quickly discovered and shared potential pandemic that we’ve ever seen.

There is no reason to panic some say. I am not so sure. We will find out soon enough. Injecting a dose of sanity into your day’s news and current events may help. Typically this virus is spread between pigs and is a highly contagious acute respiratory disease. This flu is considered an endemic in the United States, and outbreaks in pigs have also been reported elsewhere in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and parts of eastern Asia.

Flu

Flu symptoms are like cold symptoms along with fever, body aches, and pains.  At the first sign of a fever, see your doctor. If you have been to Mexico recently and are feeling ill, see your doctor right away. The flu naturally goes from species to species.  Again, the flu is generally transmitted through the respiratory tract.

Swine

Swine flu occurred in the young healthy military that were vaccinated and then exposed to toxic chemicals as part of their “training”. This flu strain causes the same symptoms as the general flu, and may be difficult to distinguish from other strains of flu and respiratory illnesses.  Swine influenza is a form of the virus that normally infects pigs but this flu strain has entered a new phase as death toll climbs in Mexico, US cases nearly doubled in the last 24 hours.

April News In Mexico

Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared an emergency in his country’s swine flu outbreak, giving him powers to order quarantines and suspend public events.

Mexico

Here is an interesting fact: Mexico is where the Spanish flu originated, however the Mexican officials are smart enough to shut down high risk areas. In fact, Mexico and USA are going through tough times, both countries in real bad condition, USA because of credit-crunch and Mexico because of drug-violence.

Mexico’s president assumed new powers Saturday to isolate people infected with a deadly swine flu strain as authorities struggled to contain an outbreak that world health officials warned could become a global epidemic.

Mexico’s minister of health, Jose Angel Cordova told the press that the virus in Mexico City mutated from pigs and transferred to humans, but researchers found that the virus is actually a unique genetic mix of swine, human and avian flu viruses, which is perhaps why the human immune system appears to be so unprepared to fight it off.

Mexico’s aloof but strong-willed President Felipe Calderon has reassured Mexicans that there are ample stocks of antiviral medicine to treat the hundreds infected with this flu across the country.

Mexico has participated in high-level international drills to prepare for pandemics, but the government has been slow to update the world on the flu death toll and not given a clear message to reassure people at home and abroad, analysts said.  The country canceled school at all levels nationwide until May 6, and the Mexico City government said it was considering a complete shutdown, including all public transportation, if the death toll keeps rising.

Swine Flu - 6 Natural Ways To Help Yourself

Although both Obama and Gordon Brown assure us they are well prepared to deal with an outbreak of Swine Flu, I am always happier to take proactive action myself and there are some simple measures we can all take. They are not guaranteed to prevent you getting it, but they will certainly help.

The symptoms are of course very similar to any other flu you might experience: fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, chills and fatigue so report to your doctor if you have these. However, what you also need to do is focus on strengthening your own immune response to prevent infection getting a hold and developing.

1 This time of year I usually have stopped taking Echinacea, but it is my first port of call to build up my defences and if you can get Echinacea tincture that is the most effective in my opinion. Boots produce their own and there is an excellent one made by Bioforce from helath stores. Take it daily for three weeks then a week off.

2 Next increase the amount of vitamin C you are taking, at least 1 gram a day in two 500mg doses is the most effective. Have as natural and unprocessed diet as you can, and juicing your fruit and vegetables gets you the maximum vitamins from them.

3 Your body requires oxygen for every cell to function properly because viruses can neither survive nor thrive in it. Therefore, the best defence against microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, is to keep the body oxygenated. Add in eggs to your diet as they are excellent for improving your oxygen absorption. See the healthy bites item on eggs below.

4 Are you breathing deeply enough? Shallow breathing will not bring enough oxygen into so your system, and being out in the fresh air every day is a must. Walking at a moderate pace while breathing in for a count of six, and out for a count of six, is one of the simplest ways to do this. If you find a count of six difficult, reduce it to four, or if it becomes easy increase to six or eight.

5 Limit foods and substances that stress the body such as sugar, caffeine, alcohol, smoking, too much red meat and processed foods high in saturated and hydrogenated fats.

6 Finally, go back to basic hygiene and wash your hands in hot soapy water frequently and carry hand gel when you are out and use it after contact with others such as a handshake - and contact in public places with stair rails, lift buttons and so on.

It may all seem like a nonsense, but people have died from not taking this seriously. The good habits outlined here will help protect you, and if you maintain them you will have a solid barrier to prevent future infection.

Swine Flu Explained

Swine Flu is a virus that usually affects pigs, but recently has begun to infect humans as well. Understanding this disease can help dispel some of the panic and alarm that many people are raising as this virus spreads across all continents.

There are many different types of flu, and flu viruses are able to mutate into new formations all the time. The swine flu is so named because the genetic structure closely resembles that of a flu virus that normally infects pigs.   Like most flu viruses, this virus is likely transmitted through bodily fluids, such as those that are expelled when someone coughs or sneezes. This is why many people choose to wear N95 masks, which filter out the infectious particles.

When a person is infected it can take anywhere from one to four days for symptoms to appear. This strain of flu has symptoms that are similar to regular strains of influenza, which is why it is so hard to tell it apart from other strains.Flu symptoms include coughing, sneezing, aches and pains, fever, chills, vomiting and diarrhea.

Influenza can be dangerous, even deadly, for those with weak immune systems, the young and old. Adults who are in good health will normally recover within a week to ten days without medical intervention. Parents should keep a close eye on their children and watch for signs of difficulty breathing, such as blue skin as well as sluggishness or high fever which may be an indication that professional assistance should be sought.

The swine flu has struck in the United States before, back in 1976. At this time officials thought that a pandemic would occur, so they undertook to vaccinate a large portion of the population. However at the time the flu virus was not virulent enough to cause a pandemic. Since then there have only been about 12 cases of this  flu and no deaths.

So why is this particular outbreak considered more serious? It would appear that the current strain of swine flu is much more contagious, and has a wider impact on our immune system than previous strains. It can spread quite rapidly and is more difficult to keep under control. While many different strains of the flu circulate the world at any one time, few of them are very dangerous. This flu appears to be much more serious due to its ability to infect more people and cause death.

Anyone who is in contact with the public should protect themselves from contracting the swine flu by avoiding anyone showing flu symptoms. Frequent hand-washing is also vital. Those who have flu symptoms should stay home to keep from infecting others.    Additionally there are some over the counter drugs that appear to help limit the seriousness of the flu virus. Tamiflu and Relenza have previously shown activity against this flu virus, although no one is certain that these drugs will help against the current strain. In the meantime the World Health Organization is attempting to identify the flu gene for this virus so that a vaccine can be created.

Swine Flu Virus

A Swine Flu virus has health officials around the world working to contain the growing outbreak. One out of every five residents of Mexico’s most populous city wore masks to protect themselves against the virus as Mexico City seems to be the epicenter of the outbreak. As many as 103 deaths have been attributed to the swine flu so far with many more feared to be on the horizon. The health department of Mexico said an additional 1,614 reported cases have been documented.

So far, however, only 18 of the deaths in Mexico have been confirmed by laboratory tests to be from swine flu virus and reported to the World Health Organization as such.

In the US preparations have been upgraded for a possible swine flu virus outbreak after 20 cases were reported, also the first cases of the virus was reported in Canada on Sunday — six mild cases.

Swine flu or Swine Influenza is a contagious respiratory sickness that is normally only found in pigs. It is caused by a type-A influenza virus. Outbreaks in pigs occur year-round. The current strain is a new variation of an H1N1 virus, which is a mix of human and animal versions.

Normaly the swine flu virus only spreads from animal to person containing the spread but When the flu spreads person-to-person, it can continue to mutate, making it harder to combat because people have no natural immunity.

The symptoms are similar to the common flu. They include fever, lethargy, lack of appetite, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Learn more about swine flu and how to treat it in the link below.

The swine flu virus spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes around another person. People can become infected by touching something with the flu virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes.

Calling it a “public health emergency of international concern” the World Health Organization (WHO) is very concerned. The WHO also says a public health emergency is an occurrence or imminent threat of illness or health conditions caused by bioterrorism, epidemic or pandemic disease, or highly fatal infectious agents or toxins that pose serious risk to a significant number of people.

Swine Flu Virus Protection?

Advice of health experts is to follow common-sense instructions: Wash your hands, stay home if you’re sick and listen to your local health authorities. Advice from the CDC about the situation is, “Very frequent hand-washing is something that we talk about time and time again and that is an effective way to reduce transmission of disease,”. They also advise, “If you’re sick, it’s very important that people stay at home. If your children are sick, have a fever and flu-like illness, they shouldn’t go to school. And if you’re ill, you shouldn’t get on an airplane or another public transport to travel. Those things are part of personal responsibility in trying to reduce the impact. ”

Swine Flu Symptoms

It is also noted that swine flu symptoms are relatively general and nonspecific. “So many different things can cause these symptoms. it is a dilemma,” says one doctor interviewed by CNN. “It is a challenge that we are wrestling with. There is not a perfect test right now to let a doctor know that a person has the Swine Flu.” It has been noted that most individuals with Swine Flu had an early on set of fever. Also it was common to see dizziness, body aches and vomiting in addition to the common sneezing, headache and other cold symptoms.

If you become sick and notice early onset of body aches, vomiting and dizziness you should consult with your doctor immediately. Although it is very unlikely that you have the Swine Flu virus, you should get medical confirmation just to be safe.

This Swine Flu virus outbreak could be a very dangerous epidemic or just another bump in the road. Health officials are still trying to figure out where exactly the virus originated, how transmissible it is and why it is mild in some cases and deadlier in others. In the mean time. Wash your hands, use common sense and be on a heightened alert to signs and symptoms of the Swine Flu virus. See you doctor if any unusual flu like symptoms occur.
